The Golden State Warriors are in a rut and if they want to try and chase another title with Stephen Curry then they’ll need to make a big move at the trade deadline.
The Warriors haven’t signaled they’re ready to rebuild the roster, so the most likely route is they package together whatever assets they have to upgrade the roster.
Golden State has several areas of need, but with the hand injury to Chris Paul they could particularly use more backcourt help.
Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray has been a popular name in the trade market and the Warriors could put together a package to land the guard.
To make the salaries work, Golden State would need to throw in someone like Andrew Wiggins.
Coincidentally, Atlanta has the highest odds to land Wiggins via Bovada.
“Atlanta Hawks: +200 Chicago Bulls: +225 Toronto Raptors: +275 Cleveland Cavaliers: +290 Dallas Mavericks: +600 Detroit Pistons: +950”
Wiggins has had one of the worst seasons of his career and the timing is unfortunate given that he’s in the first year of a four-year extension.
The Hawks might not have a need for Wiggins given some of the young forwards already on the roster, but if they’re able to land players like Jonathan Kuminga or Moses Moody then they’d have to strongly consider it.
Despite the down season, there might be some optimism that Wiggins can turn things around and be the useful player he showed he can be in the 2022 NBA Finals.
Murray would be a massive boost to the Warriors, so the two sides should be in contact in the coming weeks.
