After spending the last 15 weeks rehabbing a shoulder injury, CB Avonte Maddox finally returned to the field in Week 17 against the Cardinals. Not only did the Eagles lose in another embarrassment, but Maddox was seen going into the X-ray room post-game, holding his left arm close to his body.
His teammates were talking all week about their excitement to get No. 29 back in the defense, celebrating his energy and experience, but he did struggle in his return on Sunday. To make matter worse, the Eagles opted to name Bradley Roby a healthy scratch, so he wasn’t able to try and help out the secondary that could not make a stop.
Maddox was supposed to give the Eagles stability at the nickel position, something that they’ve had to rotate guys through this season in his absence, but it’s not looking good. The CB missed nearly half of the 2022 season, and now most of the 2023 season, and could miss whatever this team does in January if the X-ray revealed anything.
If this season has taught us anything, it’s not to get too excited about this Eagles’ team, because something is about to go wrong. And it has, again.
