Russell Wilson Drops Definitive Declaration About Denver Broncos Future Amid Exit Rumors

It’s no secret that Russell Wilson left a lot to be desired in his first two seasons with the Denver Broncos. After going 4-11 in his debut campaign, the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback led his team to an 8-9 record (he was benched for the final two games of the season) as the Broncos extended their playoff drought to eight years.

According to reports, Denver could be on the brink of cutting Wilson this summer as they prepare to pull the plug on what turned out to be a failed (and very expensive) experiment.Ezoic

Wilson has now spoken out about his future in Denver. In a recent appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast with teammate Brandon Marshall, Wilson got brutally honest about wanting to run it back with the Broncos amid the rampant exit rumors.

According to the one-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, he wants to reach the pinnacle again, and he wants to do it with the Broncos:

“For me it’s about winning. In the next five years I want to win two (Super Bowls),” Wilson said. “I want to feel the chill of that trophy again. So yeah, I want to go back to Denver. I hope I get to go back. I’d love to go back, to be honest with you. I’ve got amazing teammates.”

Wilson was also asked if he was willing to play under Coach Sean Payton for another season, to which the former responded plainly: “Yeah.”

Whether or not Payton wants him back, however, is an altogether different matter.

Russell Wilson Keeping His Options Open

In spite of all the negativity thrown in his direction, Wilson made it abundantly clear that if he were given a choice, he would opt to return to Denver in 2024. At the same time, however, the 35-year-old is still keeping his options open:

“People think I’m out of there. Maybe I am, but no matter what I’d love to go back,” he said. “I committed. There. I committed to be there. I want to win more Super Bowls there. I love the city and everything else, but you also want to be at a place that wants you, too.”

According to Russ, he isn’t ruling out the possibility of suiting up for a different team this coming season:

“I honestly haven’t really thought about it. I’m still in Denver,” he said, later adding, “If it’s not there, though, I’d go to a place where we can win again.”
