New York Jets Trade For Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill Blocked by Adam Sandler?!

There was once a time when Tyreek Hill almost became a member of the New York Jets. At least, that’s what Hill says.

The truth here – as it so often is with Tyreek Hill, who lives a complicated life – is surely more complex that the NFL wide receiver star is making it out to be.

But if we are to believe his short-hand version of a juicy tale? Tyreek was almost became a member of the New York Jets … but the Jets – and Adam Sandler – goofed it all up.

Hill, now of the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins and maybe the NFL’s most frighteningly electric weapon, recently made an appearance on Marlon Humphrey’s “Punch Line Podcast.” And in this visit, he “reveals” that the famous comic actor Adam Sandler stands as the reason Tyreek didn’t join the Jets.

“He didn’t call me, bro,” Hill said. “I was almost a New York Jet. I’m a huge Adam Sandler guy and Adam Sandler loves the New York Jets.

“So my request was, if Adam Sandler was to call me, and ask me to come play for the Jets, I would’ve went.”

Instead of joining the Jets, Hill was traded by the Kansas City Chiefs to the Dolphins, where he gets to take it out against the Jets – and against Sandler – twice a year.

Are there problems with the veracity of the story? Sure.

Hill wasn’t a free agent in March of 2022 when he was dealt, so he didn’t really get to “vote” on or “veto” his eventual landing spot.

Additionally, the trade of the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver netted K.C. five draft picks: a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), second-round pick (No. 50) and fourth-round pick, plus fourth- and sixth-round picks. There’s no way to know that the Jets would’ve matched that.

And more: The Dolphins gave Hill a four-year, $120 million extension, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. There’s no way to know if New York would’ve done that.

All in all, though, here’s hoping that Hill is sort of joking about how all of this went down. Because we are left assuming that the Jets thought that – thus precluding them from bothering to call in a favor from Adam Sandler.
